Harness acquires Augment Code to automate software from idea to production

What's the deal? Harness has acquired select assets from Augment Code, including its Cosmos and Auggie CLI products, the Code Context Engine, and related technology. The team behind the products joins Harness. Terms were not disclosed.

What's the endgame? Harness, which calls itself an Autonomous SDLC Platform company, wants to make the full software development lifecycle autonomous. Cosmos becomes the Harness Cosmos Software Factory Agent, tasked with automating engineering work from idea to merge-ready code.

The product: When a ticket is assigned or a bug reported, a fleet of Cosmos agents plans the change, writes code and tests, and opens a pull request. Each agent runs in its own isolated VM, pulling in an engineer only for judgment calls like approving a design or the final merge. Teams can fork prebuilt experts such as Project Builder and Deep Reviewer, tune them, and deploy across the organisation.

Why it fits together? Harness's Software Delivery Knowledge Graph tracks builds, deployments, infrastructure, security, and costs. Connecting it with Augment's Code Context Engine gives agents insight across the full lifecycle — what is being built, and what happens once it ships.

Once Cosmos produces a reviewed pull request, Harness's existing agents for delivery, security testing, runtime protection, and cost management carry the work into production.

The hire: The acquisition brings Augment Code's founding team into Harness, including co-founder and chief technology officer Igor Ostrovsky. "We set out to bring AI to the entire software development lifecycle, starting with context-aware coding," he said. "Joining Harness is the next step toward that vision."

The signal: "AI's impact on software will not be measured by how much code it generates, but by how much valuable software reaches customers," said Jyoti Bansal, founder and chief executive officer of Harness. The deal reflects a race to connect AI coding tools with delivery and production — moving the market beyond code generation toward autonomous engineering that reaches customers.
