Phantom GI raises $5M to replace ostomy surgery with a 20-minute needle procedure

What's the deal? Phantom GIDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → has raised $5 million in a seed round to develop a minimally invasive alternative to ostomy surgery. The company, co-founded by surgeon and interventional radiologist Eran Shlomovitz, is building a needle-based procedure it calls PercStoma.

What's the endgame? Ostomy surgery reroutes the bowel to an opening in the abdomen, a major operation with long recovery. Phantom GI wants to shrink that to a 20-minute percutaneous procedure performed with a needle.

Why now? Shlomovitz traces the idea to 2023, when he treated a woman with a bowel condition. The case pointed him toward a less invasive way to achieve the same clinical outcome.

The signal: A $5 million seed backing a single-procedure rethink reflects investor appetite for medtech that cuts operating-room time and recovery. If PercStoma works, it would turn a major surgery into an outpatient visit.
