What's the deal? Everyday ElectricDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, the company formerly known as Renew HomeDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, has acquired connected-vehicle platform Smartcar for an undisclosed sum, announced October 6, 2026. The move brings electric vehicles and managed charging into Everyday Electric's residential virtual power plant (VPP).
Why now? The deal coincides with Renew Home's rebrand to Everyday Electric and its push beyond smart thermostats and HVAC systems. Smartcar's platform and team join the company; existing customers keep their services uninterrupted.
What's the endgame? Everyday Electric's VPP already coordinates more than 6 GW across thermostats, EVs, solar, and energy storage. Smartcar connects vehicles with energy and mobility companies without extra hardware, and bringing those integrations in-house is meant to deepen ties with automakers. The company is targeting more than $5 billion in household savings over five years.
The automaker angle: Smartcar holds direct partnerships with several automakers worldwide. Everyday Electric plans to expand them and add more, growing the number of EVs that can join managed charging and VPP programs.
"For most households, the car in the driveway represents one of the biggest decisions impacting their energy expenses," said Ben Brown, chief executive officer of Everyday Electric.
Smartcar chief executive officer and co-founder Sahas Katta said joining Everyday Electric will make smart charging a more seamless part of household energy management.
The signal: Everyday Electric argues that rising demand from electrification, domestic manufacturing, and AI data centers should be met by coordinating existing resources rather than building new gas peaker plants. Adding EVs — among the largest home energy loads — makes connected cars central to turning millions of homes into a single, flexible power resource.
