The company, founded in 2016, will use the capital to grow, improve its technology, and expand services for patients and healthcare providers.
What's the endgame? AblePay runs a technology platform that guarantees providers payment on a predictable schedule while giving patients flexible payment options and free access to its advocacy team for billing questions. The aim is to help patients manage out-of-pocket costs and help providers collect revenue they have already earned.
Why now? US out-of-pocket healthcare spending keeps climbing. Americans paid $591 billion out of pocket in 2025, up 6% on the prior year, according to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.
"Healthcare affordability affects both sides of the bill," said founder and chief executive officer John Fistner. "Patients need a better way to manage the cost of care, and providers need a better way to collect the revenue they have already earned."
F-Prime principal Nikhil Marathe pointed to the model's reach across both groups. "AblePay has built a differentiated model that addresses a significant market pain point for both healthcare providers and patients," he said.
The signal: As patients shoulder a growing share of medical bills, investors are backing companies that sit between providers and patients to manage that burden. At $20 million, AblePay's round sits in roughly the 78th percentile for size — a sign of solid, rather than outsized, conviction in the affordability play.
