HYROX founders back fitness racing series Xenom, which raised $15M seed

What's the deal? HYROXDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → founders Christian Toetzke and Moritz Fürste have invested in functional fitness series Xenom and joined its board, forming a strategic partnership to build fitness racing into an international sport. The deal covers marketing, event activation, and education.

What does Xenom do? Billed as "the DecathlonDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → of Fitness," Xenom runs a stadium-scale competition series built around 10 fixed, standardised disciplines testing strength, gymnastics, and aerobic capacity. It uses a point-based scoring system, the Elite Performance Index, to benchmark athletes across Elite, RX, and Compete divisions.

Who's backing it? Toetzke and Fürste join an executive board that includes WNDRDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, the investment firm led by Jeffrey Katzenberg and Sujay Jaswa, which led Xenom's $15 million seed round. The founders have worked with chief executive officer Keith Barlow since 2020.

Why now? Xenom is preparing for its first full international season in 2027, after 2026 events in Dallas, London, Miami, and Malaga. The HYROX backing is intended to help it build a global events system from the start.

What's the endgame? "We have always believed that fitness had the potential to become one of the largest sports in the world," Toetzke said. He argued Xenom adds the strength and gymnastics disciplines that HYROX lacks, targeting people "training in boxes, garages and gyms around the world."

HYROX, a mass-participation hybrid racing series combining eight 1km runs with eight workout stations, launched in Germany in 2017 and now hosts events in more than 30 countries.

The signal: Fitness competition is becoming a venture-backed category. With HYROX's operators now behind a rival-adjacent format, the race is on to define the global platform for standardised fitness racing — before the market consolidates around one standard.
