What does TSG do? Founded in 1999 and headquartered in Halifax, TSG develops and sells products for mass-casualty incidents, triage, and casualty evacuation. Its customers include ambulance and fire services, military organisations, hospitals, police forces, NGOs, and international aid agencies.
The strategic rationale: The deal strengthens Protect Medical's Rescue & Tactical and EMS divisions. "TSG has built an excellent reputation among rescue services, defence organisations, and international aid agencies for robust, practical, and reliable products," said chief executive officer Antonio Ciardella (translated from German).
Why now? This is Protect Medical's eighth add-on acquisition, following seven completed between 2019 and 2025. The company is pursuing a buy-and-build strategy to position itself as a leading European platform for emergency medicine, first aid, and rescue solutions.
What changes for customers? Ciardella said the group sees room "to expand the reach of TSG's solutions" and offer a broader portfolio across rescue, tactical medicine, and EMS applications.
The signal: The transaction reflects steady private-equity-led consolidation in a fragmented emergency-medicine market. Borromin, an independent mid-market firm focused on German-speaking Europe and Benelux, is backing the roll-up through its Capital Fund IV, which draws support from the European Fund for Strategic Investments.
