Vardhman commits US$497M to textile expansion as revenue holds at US$1.31B
What's the deal? Vardhman Textiles has committed about US$497M to a growth and modernisation programme spanning spinning, weaving, fabric processing, technical textiles, garments, and green energy. The plan aims to push the vertically integrated manufacturer further up the textile value chain, lift margins, and strengthen its sustainability profile. It is one of the company's largest investment cycles in recent history.
The numbers: Revenue from operations reached US$1.31B in the year under review, up slightly from US$1.3B the previous year. Exports, measured on an FOB basis, slipped 1.03% to US$541.4M from US$547M.
Why now? Vardhman is investing through the cycle rather than retreating during a period of industry consolidation. More than 11 million spindles have permanently exited India's spinning market, opening room for financially stronger players to gain share.
What's the endgame? The US$497M is split across five priorities rather than one segment, including a US$163M modernisation of spinning and fabric. The company points to its CRISILDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → AA+/Stable rating and a debt-to-equity ratio of around 0.2 times as evidence it can fund the spend.
Chairman and managing director Shri Paul Oswal sees the industry entering "an important structural phase," citing consolidation, changing cotton economics, and prospective free trade agreements with the UK and European Union as potential growth engines.
The signal: As global brands diversify sourcing away from concentrated geographies, they increasingly favour large, compliant, and technologically capable partners. Vardhman is betting that scale and integration will let it emerge from the current cycle with a bigger slice of a consolidating market.
