What does Osprey do? It is a specialist in gas-atomised metal powders for advanced manufacturing, with more than 50 years of experience in atomisation technology. Its materials feed processes including metal 3D printing, metal injection moulding, hot isostatic pressing, and cold spray.
The structure: NAXS made its investment through a special purpose vehicle with a profit-sharing mechanism triggered on any realised profit. Mimir, a Stockholm-based carve-out growth investor, buys divisions from large corporations to drive growth. NAXS is already an investor in Mimir's two prior fund vehicles.
What's the endgame? The acquisition establishes Osprey as a standalone global platform in gas-atomised metal powders. Mimir is targeting exposure to growing end markets including defence, space, medical technology, and energy.
The signal: The deal reflects corporate carve-outs as a route to building focused platforms in critical input materials. Gas-atomised metal powders sit among the least substitutable inputs for next-generation manufacturing, making the niche a strategic one for investors tracking supply chains in defence and advanced industry.
