Sweden's Amelle raises $299,000 to automate accounting firms' risk checks

What's the deal? Stockholm-based AmelleDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → has raised US$362.6K (roughly $299,000) in its first external funding round, a pre-seed backed by accounting firm JWK RedovisningDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, Mikael Wiklund, and corporate lawyer Carl Svernlöv. The startup builds an AI platform that helps accounting firms document their general and individual risk assessments, including know your customer (KYC) checks.

How it works: Amelle reads a firm's customer register and drafts both general and individual risk assessments. It checks board members against registries and flags risk factors, such as unusual industry classification codes — work otherwise done by hand. The firm then reviews and adjusts the suggestions.

Why now? Swedish anti-money laundering law requires accounting firms to run risk assessments across their business and on individual customers. Last year, fines issued to accounting firms totaled US$556K, and over the past five years, more than 100 firms have received sanction fees for inadequate anti-money laundering work.

What they said: "No serious firm wants to be associated with money laundering, but it's a strict and constantly changing regulatory framework that requires subjective, traceable assessments," said Lars Runius, chief executive officer and co-founder.

Amelle positions itself against KYC tools from Fortnox, Björn LundénDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, and Spiris, which Runius argues give firms "a false sense of security." The company charges a fixed annual fee based on a firm's revenue, plus a variable amount per customer.

The numbers: Amelle has 25 customers, including JWK RedovisningDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, Business Group Dalarna, and MERA konsultbyrå — ranging from mid-sized firms with up to 1,000 customers to solo consultants with around 20. Founded in December 2025 by Karin Nilsson and company builder Hidden DreamsDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, it remains small: Runius is the only full-time employee.

What's next? The capital will go toward faster product development, including integrations with accounting systems, and toward strengthening sales. Next hires are expected to be a salesperson and a developer.

The signal: At about $299,000, this is a modest pre-seed, landing in the bottom third of comparable rounds. But it reflects growing investor appetite for compliance tools in a sector regulators flag as one of the four at greatest risk of money-laundering exploitation.
