Japan's Leafea raises $6.34M first close for SME benefits platform

What's the deal? Tokyo-based LeafeaDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → has raised US$7.69M in the first close of its Series B round. The company, led by chief executive officer Wataru Morita, builds employee-benefits services aimed at small and medium-sized enterprises.

What's the endgame? Leafea's stated mission is "to create a society where everyone can live as themselves." It will use the funds to strengthen its product development team and invest in the operational systems that support partner integrations.

Why now? The company plans a second close that could bring in financial institutions and insurers through capital and business alliances. It is building toward strategic partnerships with corporate backers to support medium- and long-term growth.

What's next? Leafea is developing new features, including a meal-subsidy service it aims to launch next year. It also sees scope to work with financial institutions on regional revitalisation.

The signal: Benefits platforms built for smaller firms — a segment often priced out of traditional perks — are drawing capital as they tie into finance and insurance partners. Leafea's structured, multi-close Series B points to a plan that leans on corporate alliances as much as fresh funding.
