Inworld acquires voice agent platform Ultravox, upgrades customers to top-ranked TTS model
What's the deal? AI research lab Inworld has acquired Ultravox, a platform developers use to build real-time voice agents. The deal was announced on October 1, 2026; terms were not disclosed. Ultravox team members who have joined Inworld will continue developing the platform.
What's the endgame? The acquisition accelerates Inworld's speech-to-speech research and voice agent work. Ultravox brings expertise in turn-taking and interruption handling, helping developers build agents that respond to users in real time.
The product: For Ultravox customers, all built-in Inworld voices are upgraded to Realtime TTS-2, the top-ranked text-to-speech model on the Artificial AnalysisDealroom has a profile for this one. Why it matters: "Bringing Realtime TTS-2 to the Inworld voices customers already use is the first benefit we're delivering," said Kylan Gibbs, chief executive officer of Inworld. Inworld builds first-party speech models and runs the realtime inference behind modular APIs used by some of the largest consumer AI apps.
The signal: Combining a developer-facing voice agent platform with an in-house speech model points to consolidation around real-time, speech-to-speech infrastructure as voice becomes a primary interface for consumer AI.
