What's the deal? VEGA GrieshaberDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a German manufacturer of industrial measurement technology, is acquiring Akenza AGDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a Swiss enterprise IoT platform vendor based in Zurich. Terms were not disclosed.

Who's involved? VEGA is a family-owned company with more than 2,800 employees and a presence in over 80 countries. Its sensors measure level, point level, and pressure for industries including chemicals, food and beverages, pharmaceuticals, water and wastewater management, and mining.

What akenza brings: akenza runs a technology-agnostic platform that connects devices and systems for Smart Industry and Smart Corporate Real Estate deployments. It will continue to operate independently and keep its existing customer relationships.

What's the endgame? For VEGA, the deal expands its digital portfolio and grows its Industrial IoT business. The company plans to gradually integrate the akenza platform into its wider range of solutions.

Why it matters: The acquisition pairs sensor hardware with a software layer that turns raw data into decisions. "Together, we close the gap between data collection and its use for informed decisions," said Isabel Grieshaber, managing partner of VEGA Grieshaber.

What akenza gains: VEGA's global footprint gives the startup room to scale. "VEGA gives us the global reach and the foundation to elevate akenza to a new international level," said Jonas Schmid, co-chief executive officer of akenza. He added the company will keep expanding Smart Industry use cases and its Smart Building vertical.

The signal: Hardware makers are moving up the stack to own the software and data layers that make their sensors more valuable. By buying a platform rather than building one, VEGA bets that end-to-end IoT — from sensor to decision — is where industrial customers are headed.
