ORAFOL buys rest of Belgium's Group M.A.M. three years early
What's the deal? ORAFOLDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → has acquired 100% of Group M.A.M.Dealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a Belgian developer and manufacturer of solar protection films. The acquisition, announced in October 2026, pulls forward a full takeover that was originally planned for 2029. Terms were undisclosed.
The backstory: ORAFOL first took a significant stake in Group M.A.M. in October 2024 to bolster its Functional Films business unit. The intent from the start was to own the company outright — it has now done so years ahead of schedule.
What does Group M.A.M. do? It makes high-end window films for architectural glass and vehicles. Using a process called sputtering, it embeds precious metals into thin polyester film to improve light transmission, heat reflection, and thermal insulation.
Why now? ORAFOL says the partnership progressed faster than expected. "Our expectations have been met and, according to independent research institutes, even exceeded in terms of effectiveness," said Dr. Holger Loclair, chairman and chief executive officer of ORAFOL.
What's the endgame? With full control, ORAFOL plans to expand its portfolio of spectrally selective and reflective solar protection films. "Becoming part of ORAFOL gives us the industrial strength, global reach and long-term vision to accelerate that ambition," said Luc Michiels, chief executive officer of Group M.A.M.
The signal: Demand for energy efficiency, heat protection, and climate resilience is driving interest in high-performance films. By fully absorbing a specialist supplier, ORAFOL is betting that owning the technology outright — rather than partnering — gives it an edge in a growing premium market.
