What does it do? The Okazaki-based company develops, makes, and sells "DIA," a high-performance filler made from 2D platy talc. Mixed into resins, the material combines rigidity with weight reduction, serving as a reinforcement for automotive plastics and other uses.
Why now? In July 2026, GX Minerals brought its Tahara factory in Aichi into commercial operation, giving it annual capacity of around 10,000 tonnes. The plant runs partly on CO2-free electricity to cut its footprint.
What's the endgame? With supply now stable, the company is broadening beyond volume resin supply into higher-value advanced functional materials. The new funds go toward developing special grades, building quality assurance, and securing intellectual property at home and abroad.
Founded in May 2023, GX Minerals developed DIA through industry-academia-government collaboration. "The value of a material lies not in a single delivery, but in being able to consistently supply the same product," said chairman Hirotake Hayashi (translated from Japanese).
The signal: At about $2.92 million, this round sits in the lower percentiles for size, reflecting the capital-light stage of a young materials maker moving from pilot to commercial scale. For GX Minerals, the mix of regional bank lending and venture equity signals a bet that domestic, lower-carbon materials can find a market in automotive and advanced-material supply chains.
