Propeller Fuels buys trader Shipergy to lift bunker volumes 50%

What's the deal? Marine fuel supplier Propeller Fuels has acquired the business of bunker trading firm ShipergyDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → for an undisclosed sum. Shipergy's trading operations, client relationships, and technology transfer to Propeller on October 1, 2026.

What each side brings: Propeller, founded in Hartlepool in 2017, runs physical supply from Hull and moved into trading in 2019. Shipergy, launched in 2022 by Signal GroupDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, was selling 450,000-500,000 metric tonnes of marine fuels a year as of January.

What changes? Propeller expects the enlarged group's volumes to grow by around 50%. The Shipergy brand stays active, its traders keep serving clients, and the team continues procuring bunkers for the fleet managed by Signal Group.

The tech split: Co-founder Daniel Rose leaves trading after a handover to focus on technology. Products from both firms — Propeller's BunkerBridgeDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → and Shipergy's Energy BeaconDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → — will sit outside the group and develop separately under Rose's leadership.

"Shipergy attracted interest from a number of potential partners, but the culture at Propeller stood out as the best fit for our people and our clients from the very first conversation," Rose said.

Backing the deal: HSBC UKDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → put in place a new, enlarged facility giving Propeller more than double its present cash requirement.

Where it's growing: The addition of Shipergy opens new locations for Propeller, including Hong Kong. It already holds its head office in Dubai and trading offices in London, Athens, and Singapore, and in July announced a commercial partnership with US-based Proteus Supply and TradingDealroom has a profile for this one. "We have built Propeller patiently, from physical supply in Hull to a trading business with global reach, and Shipergy is the natural next step," said chief executive Robert Thompson.

The signal: The deal marks a step in consolidation among independent bunker traders, pairing physical supply with trading reach and separating maritime software from the fuel business.
