Optikos buys Omega Optical to unify optics workflow under one roof

Try Dealroom →, a precision optical coatings and component manufacturer, in an undisclosed deal announced September 29, 2026. Both are Artemis portfolio companies, and the merger folds design, fabrication, coating, and metrology into a single organisation.

What each side brings: Optikos provides engineering, manufacturing, and metrology services in optical systems. Omega Optical adds thin-film coatings, filtering, diffractive gratings, and infrared optics — combining to serve aerospace, defence, life science, and semiconductor manufacturing customers.

Why now? The companies argue that the industry's traditional model — splitting design, fabrication, coating, and testing across separate firms — has become a constraint. "Customers are no longer satisfied with best-in-class design that comes paired with disconnected coating houses and third-party metrology labs," said David Cooper, the new chief executive officer.

What changes for customers? Existing programs, contracts, and delivery schedules continue unchanged, along with account structures and engineering contacts. The combined entity promises streamlined program management and reduced vendor coordination across the full optical workflow.

New leadership: Cooper, previously chief executive officer at Omega Optical, takes the top job immediately. He brings more than 30 years of industrial technology leadership, with prior roles at Cerberus Capital ManagementDealroom has a profile for this one. The signal: The deal reflects a push toward vertical integration in optics and photonics, where speed of delivery increasingly determines competitive advantage. By consolidating the workflow under one owner, Optikos is betting that end-to-end accountability beats a network of specialised vendors for mission-critical applications.
