Sapphire buys 39-year-old screening firm USAFact to build national platform
What's the deal? Sapphire Background Check has acquired USAFactDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a Riverside, California-based background screening company with nearly four decades of experience. The Brooklyn-based buyer, which provides FCRA-compliant employment and criminal screening, announced the deal on September 28, 2026. Terms were not disclosed.
What each side brings: USAFact has operated since 1987, building screening for Fortune 100 companies and small businesses across regulated sectors. Sapphire adds modern technology, county-level verification, and coverage of more than 505 million criminal records.
What's the endgame? The combined company will offer employers a single menu spanning verifications, criminal checks, motor vehicle records, drug screening, healthcare sanctions checks, and I-9 and E-Verify compliance services. It targets healthcare, financial services, staffing, government, transportation, and cannabis clients.
What changes for customers? Little, according to Sapphire. Existing USAFact clients keep their portal, account access, and order history, logging in as before.
Why it matters: "USAFact's decades of expertise, combined with our technology and nationwide reach, means employers get a stronger partner," said Esther Raitport, chief operating officer of Sapphire Background Check. She added that existing customers keep "the same people supporting them, now with expanded capabilities behind the scenes."
The signal: The deal folds a long-established regional screener into a tech-driven national platform, a pairing of legacy compliance know-how with database scale. It reflects steady consolidation in employment screening as employers seek fewer, broader vendors across regulated industries.
