Ison Harrison buys Dootsons, lifting turnover to £42M

What's the deal? Yorkshire law firm Ison HarrisonDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → has acquired DootsonsDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a North West solicitors' practice founded in 1897. Bosses call it the company's "first major acquisition outside its Yorkshire heartland in its 48-year history". Terms were undisclosed.

What changes? The deal adds three high street offices in Leigh, Newton-le-Willows, and Culcheth, near Warrington. Dootsons' 27 fee earners and staff — covering residential property, wills and probate, commercial, and family law — join Ison Harrison, pushing its annual turnover to £42 million.

Why now? The takeover comes weeks after Ison Harrison opened its first non-Yorkshire hub in Manchester. "Acquiring a firm of Dootsons' calibre and reputation enables us to build quickly following our arrival in Manchester," said managing director Jonathan Wearing.

The expansion play: The Manchester launch is one of several recent moves. Ison Harrison has also expanded its Middlesbrough office and opened a base in Penistone, near Barnsley — evidence of a growth push beyond its traditional base.

What's the endgame? For Wearing, the North West is familiar ground. "I began my legal career as a trainee near Leigh," he said, calling the deal "a genuine full-circle moment".

For Dootsons, the sale is about continuity. Managing partner Andrew Stockton said joining Ison Harrison "gives us the opportunity to protect that heritage while ensuring the practice is well placed for the future".

The signal: Regional legal firms are consolidating as smaller high street practices seek scale and succession. Ison Harrison's steady acquisition streak shows how mid-sized players are stitching together local networks to expand across the North.
