Danish pension fund P+ backs Schroders with $230M European private equity bet
What's the deal? Danish pension fund P+ is investing US$220M in the Schroders Capital European growth companies fund, a private equity vehicle targeting small and medium-sized unlisted firms across Europe. The commitment gives P+ access to a segment its investment director says is "difficult to reach directly."
What's the endgame? The fund invests in growth companies in technology, healthcare, business services, and industrials. P+ expects its money to be spread across more than 30 companies in European markets and sectors, delivering diversified exposure.
Why now? P+ frames the move as timely, tying it to a shift in global conditions. "With the new global reality we are facing, there is a need for investments that can strengthen European competitiveness and resilience strategically," said Jasper Riis, investment director at P+.
The pension fund wants cost-effective, long-term returns for members while raising its exposure to Europe. Riis said the fund's focus "fits very well with P+'s long-term investment strategy and the desire to increase investments in European companies."
The signal: Schroders Capital ranks among Europe's largest private equity investors, and the deal reflects a wider push by institutional investors to back the region's mid-market growth companies at a moment when European competitiveness has become a policy priority.
