PLACE buys Maxwell to push into $130B mortgage tech

What's the deal? Real estate technology unicorn PLACE has acquired MaxwellDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, an AI-powered mortgage technology provider serving more than 400 financial institutions and facilitating over $130 billion in annual transactions. The deal, announced September 24, 2026, closes for an undisclosed sum.

What each side brings: Maxwell offers point-of-sale, business intelligence, fulfilment, diligence, and private-label origination services. It touched nearly 10% of US mortgage origination transactions in 2025 and reported 20% five-year compound annual growth.

PLACE runs a homeownership platform powering hundreds of thousands of real estate professionals through two pillars: à la carte technology services and an operational growth engine for real estate teams. The company touched more than 100,000 real estate transactions in 2025, and estimates 20% of US homeowners are already part of its ecosystem.

What's the endgame? PLACE wants to connect the real estate and mortgage transactions under one platform, from search to close. Maxwell becomes the centrepiece of its financial services business, extending reach to lenders and institutions.

Why now? Lenders face pressure to deliver a faster, more connected consumer experience across the real estate lifecycle. "The mortgage experience is a critical point to build trust with consumers," said Ben Kinney, PLACE chief executive officer and co-founder.

The move follows PLACE's earlier 2026 acquisition of the Real Estate Services business of Radian GroupDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, which brought due diligence, REO asset management, and valuation services and marked its entry into institutional real estate.

What changes for customers? Maxwell customers keep the same platform, support, and contracts, now backed by PLACE's resources and ecosystem. PLACE says there will be no disruption to existing services or relationships.

The signal: Real estate and mortgage technology is consolidating around integrated platforms that span the full homeownership journey. By stitching origination into its ecosystem, PLACE is betting that owning more of the transaction — agent, lender, and homeowner — is the path to scale.
