What's the endgame? Clastix builds infrastructure technology for organisations running Kubernetes across multiple teams, environments, and workloads. It targets the complexity that grows as clusters multiply — including the dedicated machines each cluster's control plane traditionally requires. Its technology moves control planes onto shared infrastructure, cutting overhead and simplifying operations.
The company's stack includes Kamaji, its open-source Hosted Control Plane engine, and kMetal, its commercial fleet-management platform. Kamaji stays open source under the Apache 2.0 licence, while kMetal is built for fleet management, governance, and production operations.
Why now? Clastix says its technology already runs in production for infrastructure teams in Europe and North America across AI labs, telecommunications, cloud services, and the public sector. The funding will support product development, customer success, solutions engineering, and go-to-market expansion, plus R&D for AI workloads.
Chief executive officer and co-founder Adriano Pezzuto tied the round to the AI infrastructure layer. "The next phase of AI won't be decided by models alone but by who controls the infrastructure layer beneath them," he said.
Mistral, itself an investor, uses Clastix to run its Kubernetes infrastructure. "By backing Clastix, we're investing in Europe's AI stack," said Timothée Lacroix, co-founder and chief technology officer of Mistral. "A sovereign AI ecosystem isn't just about models — it's about the infrastructure layer that makes them run."
Over the next three years, Clastix expects to grow its headcount as it responds to customer demand and builds out capabilities for enterprise teams.
The signal: The round sits in the top 5% of all-time seed deals in Italy by size, a notable outlier in a market where large early-stage cheques are rare. It also reflects a broader European push to build sovereign AI infrastructure from the compute layer up, not just the models.
