Bessemer raises $5.8B, tilts toward growth-stage bets

What's the deal? Bessemer Venture Partners has raised $5.75 billion in fresh funding, the San Francisco-based firm plans to announce Wednesday. The capital marks a broader shift towards growth-stage investments.

Where's the money going? Bessemer is allocating $4 billion to growth-stage financings — funding young companies raising large rounds at high valuations, according to partner Byron Deeter. The remaining $1.75 billion will go towards younger startups raising capital at the inception phase or soon after.

What's the endgame? The split signals a deliberate move up-market for a firm long known for early-stage bets. Bessemer now manages over $20 billion in assets and has invested in more than 260 AI companies.

The signal: The weighting towards growth capital reflects where late-stage money is flowing as AI startups command higher valuations and larger rounds. Bessemer's move puts more of its firepower behind maturing companies rather than first cheques.
