Cefmof Hydrogen backs carbon-to-syngas startup Reduciner with €1.5M

What's the deal? Finnish climate technology company ReducinerDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → has raised €1.5 million in a seed round led by Cefmof Hydrogen OyDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, which becomes a shareholder through the investment. Reduciner develops electrified technology that converts captured carbon dioxide and biobased feedstocks into synthesis gas and activated carbon.

What's the endgame? The syngas — mainly carbon monoxide and hydrogen — can serve as a feedstock across industrial processes. Cefmof plans to pair it with renewable hydrogen to build low-carbon solutions and cut carbon dioxide emissions.

Why now? The investment deepens an existing partnership between the two companies. A joint pilot is starting in Jyväskylä, where Cefmof operates Finland's first hydrogen refuelling station and is building its own hydrogen production unit.

Cefmof says startup investments are not its primary focus, but it made an exception here. "In Reduciner's technology, we see a new and interesting opportunity to combine renewable hydrogen with captured carbon dioxide," said Lauri Perämäki, managing director of Cefmof Hydrogen Oy. "The joint pilot starting in Jyväskylä is the first concrete step in this work."

Johanna Grönroos, chief executive officer and co-founder of Reduciner, called Cefmof "a very good partner for us, as the company is building hydrogen production capacity and actively developing new applications for hydrogen."

The signal: The deal reflects growing interest in carbon circularity, where captured emissions and renewable hydrogen replace fossil-based raw materials in industry. For Reduciner, the funding supports further development and commercialisation of its technology.
