What's the endgame? TopDog wants fans to compete against each other in real time, rather than against a house or in asynchronous score-based games. Its portfolio includes Basketball Hustle, a game where players draft teams and make decisions mid-match, plus titles such as 21 Hustle, Tilt, and Pinfall.
Why now? The company will use the funding to accelerate user acquisition and add more real-time games built around sports.
"Most gaming products only give them something to do for a short time period, while a game is actually being played," said co-founder Aman Agarwal. "We believe real-time multiplayer can redefine what sports gaming looks like."
What could go wrong? Real-time multiplayer gaming is technically hard to scale, requiring reliable matchmaking, payments, and fraud detection. Peter Blacklow, managing director at Boston Seed Capital, said the team "cracked several codes" he could not while leading WorldWinner's skill-games business.
The signal: TopDog is betting that the next wave of real-money skill gaming will be live and multiplayer, not solo. With early sports-betting operators backing the round, the raise reflects investor appetite for products that keep fans engaged even outside live game windows.
