Dalcour Maclaren lands MML Capital backing as UK infrastructure spend surges
What's the deal? Dalcour MaclarenDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a Bicester-based utilities and infrastructure consultancy, has secured a strategic investment from MML Capital, an international mid-market private equity investor. The undisclosed sum will fund the firm's next growth phase across the UK and Ireland.
What does DM do? The B Corp-certified consultancy works exclusively for the utilities and infrastructure sector, delivering planning and environment consents, land assembly, geospatial expertise, and stakeholder engagement. It employs 750 people across 19 offices.
Its projects include Gatwick's Northern Runway, Sizewell C Nuclear Power Station, HS2, Hornsea Offshore Wind Farm, and the Great Grid Upgrade.
Why now? UK infrastructure spending is stepping up sharply. Water sector investment has more than doubled to £104bn for 2025-2030, up from £51bn, while electricity transmission investment for 2026-2031 has jumped to £69bn from £11bn.
What's the endgame? The capital will support hiring — including apprenticeship and graduate schemes — plus broader services, wider geographic reach, and further investment in technology and data. MML will also back selective acquisitions that add talent or capabilities.
DM created more than 250 new roles in the past 12 months and says it has achieved around 20% growth year after year for 23 years.
"MML stood out as a natural choice," said James Neil, chief executive at Dalcour Maclaren. "They understand our market, our values and the unique approach that sets us apart."
The signal: As UK regulators unlock record investment cycles for water and electricity networks, the specialist consultancies that clear planning, land, and environmental hurdles are becoming prime targets for private equity betting on infrastructure delivery.
