MediWound lands $3.3M more from Department of War for battlefield burn care

What's the deal? MediWound has been awarded an additional $3.3 million in non-dilutive funding from the US Department of WarDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → to advance NexoBrid, its non-surgical debridement treatment for battlefield burns. The supplemental grant raises the total program budget to $21.8 million.

What's the endgame? The money will fund development of a room-temperature-stable formulation of NexoBrid — a version that could be deployed in the field without refrigeration. The program is intended to carry that formulation through to an Investigational New Drug (IND) application with the US Food and Drug Administration.

Why now? A stable formulation removes a logistical barrier for military use, where cold storage is often impractical. Advancing to an IND filing marks the step toward clinical testing and eventual regulatory clearance.

The signal: The award ranks among the larger grants in its class — in the top 10% for health-sector grant rounds in Israel. Non-dilutive government funding lets MediWound push a defense-focused product without tapping shareholders, tying its burn-care pipeline more closely to military demand.
