Taiwan's Yuanhua Medtech raises $8.5M for AI drug repurposing

What's the deal? Yuanhua MedtechDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a subsidiary of Taiwan's Huaan MedicalDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, has completed an US$7.82M early-stage capital increase. Taiwan's National Development FundDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → and venture capital institutions subscribed to the round.

What does it do? Yuanhua Medtech works on AI-driven drug repurposing, using its proprietary "Smart Symphony" platform to find new indications for existing drugs. Its business model centres on developing and licensing intellectual property for those new indications.

What's the money for? The proceeds will go in two directions. The company plans to expand its AI and biotech R&D teams and upgrade the Smart Symphony platform, then deepen technical and commercial partnerships with biotech firms, pharmaceutical companies, and research institutions.

Why now? The raise brings in external shareholders and moves Yuanhua Medtech from a wholly owned subsidiary to a company with a diversified shareholding structure. That shift lays the groundwork for a planned listing on Taiwan's Emerging Stock Board in 2027.

The introduction of external shareholders has "strengthened the company's capital structure," said general manager Hsu Yin-Hsiung, who added that the move also supports the listing plan and gradual shareholding diversification.

The signal: National Development Fund backing signals state support for AI applied to drug discovery, positioning Yuanhua Medtech within the wider drug repurposing ecosystem as it prepares for public markets.
