Where the money goes: Proceeds will finance projects with environmental and climate benefits and strengthen the bank's capital position. Targets include renewable energy generation and transmission, green buildings, clean transportation, and waste management.

Why now? Despite recent global volatility, investor interest was strong, AIB said, with a peak orderbook of €2.2 billion. Pricing tightened by 25-30bps to a final coupon of 4.125%.

What's the endgame? AIB has deployed €26 billion of green and transition lending since setting a €30 billion Climate Action Target in 2019, including €3.1 billion in the first half of 2026. New climate and infrastructure lending hit €1.2 billion in the same period, up €600 million.

Chief executive Colin Hunt called the issuance "not a destination, but a touchpoint in our journey." He added that AIB aims "to be a force for climate change in Ireland and beyond."

The signal: AIB was the first Irish bank to issue a green bond, in 2020, and has since raised €7.2 billion from green bonds and €8.95 billion counting social bonds. The latest deal ranks in the larger tier of recent raises, underscoring how climate finance has become one of the bank's fastest-growing lending lines.
