Anthropic and Adaptyv Bio launch protein design competition with 5,000+ experimental validations
What's the deal? AnthropicDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → and Adaptyv Bio have launched a co-sponsored protein design competition in which more than 5,000 AI-designed proteins will be experimentally validated in Adaptyv's automated wet lab. Anthropic is committing up to $1 million in Claude credits, plus up to $250,000 in compute credits from Modal and DNA-synthesis support from Twist Bioscience.
Why it matters: The competition builds on Anthropic research showing Claude can optimise open-source biomolecular models — structure prediction, protein design, protein language models and genomics — to run roughly 4x faster on average, and can fold systems larger than 10,000 tokens on a single GPU node. The organisations jointly selected five problems at the frontier of current protein design capability, and the experimental results are slated to be published openly on Proteinbase.
The signal: Anthropic is extending its biology work from in silico demos to physical validation loops in which AI designs proteins, automated labs test them and results feed back into the models — building on the August 2026 collaboration in which Claude-designed proteins were experimentally validated through Adaptyv's lab.
