What's the endgame? The 100 MW / 400 MWh facility in Maricopa County will run on a 20-year tolling agreement with Arizona Public Service (APS)Dealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, the state's largest electric utility, which serves about 1.4 million homes and businesses. The project is expected to be placed in service in the first half of 2027.
Why now? Arizona utilities are breaking demand records. APS hit a peak on August 2 that was 5% higher than the previous record set in 2025.
By the numbers: The close marks GridStor's fourth major financing milestone in the past 12 months. Backed by Goldman Sachs Asset Management, it manages a pipeline of more than 3 GW of battery storage projects in later-stage development or under construction across the western and central US.
"Trusted partnerships like these are critical for advancing large-scale power supply and infrastructure to meet surging demand for new power capacity," said chief executive officer Chris Taylor.
The signal: Lenders are treating battery storage as core energy infrastructure, not a bet. As ING director Filipe Barreto put it, the assets have become "one of the primary themes in energy financing" — a shift that positions storage to absorb the surge in grid demand.
