Sequenza launches financial data platform for researchers, raises €1.3M seed

What's the deal? SequenzaDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a new KU Leuven spin-off, has launched a platform giving universities and other organisations access to decades of high-quality financial data on companies — a gap researcher Jesse WurstenDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → identified while working in KU Leuven's Department of Management, Strategy & Innovation, where he built the platform together with, among others, Professor Bart Van Looy. The start-up recently raised €1.3M in seed capital from several well-known entrepreneurs and CEOs, and was established as a European Cooperative Society (SCE).

Why it matters: Sequenza's database already covers Belgian companies dating back to 1985, and the team is expanding it to French and Luxembourgish companies, followed by the UK, Germany, the Netherlands and other European countries. Alongside KU Leuven, the project is supported by Universiteit Antwerpen, ULB, UHasselt, Universiteit Gent, UCLouvain, ULiège, UMons and Vrije Universiteit Brussel. Because it is structured as an SCE, its shareholders consist of both customers and financial investors — a structure the founders say keeps the business sustainable and able to grow while making reliable data widely accessible.
