Swisscanto leads $25M growth round for Swiss medtech Piomic

What's the deal? Piomic MedicalDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a Swiss medtech startup working on complex tissue healing, has raised $25 million in growth equity. Swisscanto led the round with a US$9.17M commitment, joined by existing shareholders including Diabetes Venture Fund, Zürcher Kantonalbank, Verve VenturesDealroom has a profile for this one. Who they are: Spun out of ETH ZurichDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, Piomic develops physical stimulation therapies for deep tissue regeneration. Its lead product, the COMS One Therapy System, is a portable, non-invasive device for treating non-healing wounds across hospital, outpatient, and home-care settings.

What's the money for? Proceeds will fund completion of Piomic's clinical program — including the MAVERICKS IDE pivotal trial and the NAZARÉ trial — plus its US market approval filing and entry for COMS One. Some capital targets expanding the COMS platform into new applications.

Why now? The US advanced wound care market is in transition. With Medicare emphasising evidence-based coverage and capped payments for skin substitutes, technologies arriving with strong clinical evidence and established reimbursement are positioned to gain share.

What's the endgame? COMS One holds FDA Breakthrough Device Designation and is CE marked under EU rules. It also retained eligibility for two Medicare payment pathways now closing to new entrants — a position Piomic calls rare among wound care technologies. Piomic has secured over $50 million in equity, convertible capital, and non-dilutive funding since inception.

Beyond wounds, the platform has potential in infection management, sports medicine, ophthalmology, and aesthetics.

For Swisscanto — the growth fund of Zürcher Kantonalbank's asset management division — Piomic is its first medtech investment. Senior investment director Susanne K. Schorsch and investment manager Ellen Rietmann Ahl said the company "combines a technologically compelling, clinically validated therapy with a highly attractive regulatory and reimbursement position in a large, structurally growing market."

The signal: At $25 million, the round sits in the upper tier of medtech financings, reflecting investor appetite for later-stage devices that pair clinical validation with a clear path to reimbursement — the two hurdles that most often stall medtech commercialisation.
