The tie-up: Alongside the funding, Susten and Japan Post Bank signed a capital and business alliance. It works from the premise that "investment is a science," and in April secured a patent for a feature that automates optimisation of Japan's NISA tax-free investment allowance.

Why now? Susten's assets under management have grown quickly, topping US$100M (roughly $83 million) as of the end of August 2026 — 3.3 times the level at the end of last year. The company said it raised the capital to fund further expansion.

The signal: The round is modest by venture standards, landing in roughly the 51st percentile for size. But the backing of a state-linked banking giant with tens of millions of retail account holders gives a young fintech a distribution channel that money alone rarely buys — a route to bring automated, theory-driven investing to mainstream Japanese savers.
