UK's Academy of Robotics closes £100,000 seed round in under six hours

What's the deal? Academy of RoboticsDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a UK electric autonomous vehicle company, closed a £100,000 (≈$133,698) seed round in under six hours. Founder William Sachiti raised the round from half a dozen existing investors and turned down an additional £500,000 that was offered within 24 hours.

Why now? The company needed roughly £70,000 to carry it through production, 10 months after its last raise. As Sachiti put it, "as costs constantly change, there was a need to raise an additional 70K to take us through production."

What's the endgame? Academy of Robotics is developing Kar-Go, an autonomous delivery vehicle designed for unmarked residential side-streets rather than main roads. It aims to strip 90% of delivery costs, boosting logistics profits and cutting consumer prices.

The company has built its own vehicle chassis and proprietary software, filed several patents, and partnered with NVIDIA and UK manufacturer Pilgrim MotorsportsDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → to build street-legal versions of the vehicles.

Who's joining? Academy of Robotics recently hired designer Paul Burgess as chief designer. Burgess left McLarenDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → for the role, bringing automotive design experience to Kar-Go's production push.

What's next? Sachiti said he accepted only £100,000 to avoid diluting existing shareholders. He plans a larger round once the prototype is complete, betting a finished product will command a higher valuation: "there is value in waiting until our prototype is complete."

The signal: The £100,000 raised sits at the smaller end of seed rounds, but the speed and oversubscription point to investor conviction. With a mention from Richard Branson and an NVIDIA partnership, Academy of Robotics is betting that a completed prototype — not fresh cash now — is the path to its next, larger raise.
