Yamano to buy kimono retailer Japan Heart for $460K, chasing social-media buyers

What's the deal? Yamano HoldingsDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a Japanese retailer of traditional apparel and jewelry, will acquire all shares of kimono specialty store operator Japan Heart for US$546.2K. The deal closes October 1, 2026, making Japan Heart a wholly owned subsidiary.

Who's who? YamanoDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → was founded in 1909 as a futon shop and now focuses on traditional Japanese apparel and jewelry. Japan Heart, founded in 2017, runs the "Ginza Kimono Tiroloir" store and reaches customers through YouTube and Instagram.

The rationale: Yamano wants Japan Heart's social-media customer acquisition methods and secondhand sales expertise. Japan Heart draws 40% of purchases from new customers, while reused goods make up 35% of revenue.

By the numbers: For the year ended February 2026, Japan Heart posted revenue of US$1.36M and net income of US$169.2K. Yamano forecasts consolidated revenue of US$115.4M for the year ending March 2027, up 2%, with net income down 38%.

What's next? Yamano plans to keep the store's brand while using its sales network and purchasing power to expand the business. It said the deal's impact on its consolidated earnings forecast is still under review.

The signal: As kimono-wearing declines long term in Japan, retailers are racing to find new buyers. Sharing styling tips and purchase stories on social media is emerging as an alternative to in-store sales and promotional events — the model Yamano is betting on.
