The Llansamlet-based manufacturer makes fabricated and precision-engineered components for the nuclear, defence, renewables, power generation, construction, and oil and gas sectors.

What's the endgame? The £250,000 project — part-funded by the business itself — is expected to cut annual carbon emissions by roughly 60 tonnes and lower costs for the energy-intensive operation. It is forecast to pay for itself within four years.

Why now? The deal marks the next stage of growth following a late-2024 acquisition, also backed by the Development Bank, that secured the company under new ownership. Since then, Afon has bought new equipment, expanded its capabilities, and grown its project pipeline.

The loan came through the bank's Green Business Loan Scheme, financed by the Welsh GovernmentDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → and the Development Bank of Wales. It offers discounted rates and patient capital, with loans from £1,000 to £1.5 million.

The signal: The financing shows how state-backed green lending is helping smaller UK manufacturers cut energy bills while decarbonising — pairing environmental goals with a clear commercial return.
