StorkJet lands €1.6M EU grant to sharpen aircraft performance models

What's the deal? StorkJetDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a Polish aviation software company, has secured a €1.6 million EU grant to fund research applying machine learning to inaccurate aircraft performance models. The grant is part of a €2.5 million project, with StorkJet contributing €910,000.

What's the problem? Operational systems — from flight planning to electronic flight bag (EFB) and fuel management tools — can apply only a single performance correction per aircraft, because more granular data has not existed. But the gap between model and reality shifts with weight, altitude, speed, and temperature.

What's the endgame? StorkJet aims to model multidimensional corrections that reflect how each individual aircraft performs across its whole operating envelope. It says the result is "more precise fuel planning," lower fuel burn and CO₂ emissions, and improved safety.

Why now? The models will be verified in operational conditions and prepared for integration with the flight planning systems airlines already use. Globally operating carriers are the target.

The signal: The grant ranks in the top 6% of all-time enterprise software grant rounds in Poland, a marker of the EU's continued backing for aviation efficiency and decarbonisation tools.
