Cielo to issue $490 million in debentures to refinance debt
What's the deal? Brazilian payments company CieloDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → will issue US$639.5M (roughly $490 million) in debentures to refinance existing debt. Its board of directors approved the offering on Monday, September 14.
The terms: The debentures carry a four-year maturity and pay interest equal to the CDI rate plus 0.45% a year. The papers are earmarked exclusively for professional investors.
Why now? The proceeds are meant to swap out existing debt, letting Cielo reset its liabilities rather than fund new spending.
The signal: Debenture issuance is a common route for large Brazilian companies to manage their debt profiles, and Cielo's move ties its new obligations to the country's benchmark CDI rate — a sign it is optimising financing costs rather than raising fresh growth capital.
