What's the endgame? Robocurve, a Public Benefit Corporation, operates as a third-party auditor, building open-source tools and benchmarks to measure what AI models can do when connected to physical machines. The company will use the money to grow its research team, test a wider range of robots and tasks, and support academic researchers developing open robotics benchmarks.

Why independence matters: Robocurve sets its own research agenda and methodology and publishes results without giving frontier AI labs control over the findings.

Why now? General-purpose models are increasingly performing robotics tasks that once required purpose-built systems. Robocurve said large language models can outperform some vision-language-action (VLA) models on simple robotic tasks, and that output-token speeds are rising about 2.1 times per month.

What could go wrong? Major technical questions remain. Robocurve flagged latency as a main limit on using large language models to control robots directly, alongside doubts over whether the capabilities extend to more complex bodies such as dexterous hands and humanoids.

The signal: The round sits in the top 7% of all US seed rounds for robotics by size, according to a sample of 1,468 deals. As models edge closer to running physical machines, independent measurement of what they can — and cannot — do is drawing serious capital. As Robocurve put it: "When the clouds are heavy, we don't need to know exactly when it will rain to carry an umbrella."
