What's the deal? Kakao Games has agreed to acquire a 39.56% stake in casual gaming company Me2OnDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → for about US$82.2M (roughly $72 million). The deal, approved by its board on September 15, gives Kakao Games majority control and the largest shareholder position in Me2On.

Try Dealroom →) became its new owner. Chief executive officer Lee Si-woo called it "the first step in executing a merger and acquisition strategy with proven business viability and profitability," adding that such deals "will continue."

What each side brings: Founded in 2010 and listed on the KOSDAQ in 2016, Me2On runs social casino and casual games across Asia, North America, and Europe. Last year it posted revenue of about US$101.4M and operating profit of about US$10.6M, with overseas sales making up more than 80% of the total.

What's the endgame? Kakao Games plans to add social casino, casual games, and mind sports to its pipeline, diversifying its portfolio and building a more stable earnings base. It also aims to tap Me2On's intellectual property spanning games, dramas, webtoons, and web novels.

What they're saying: Me2On chief executive officer Son Chang-wook said the company is "pleased to become a strategic partner" with Kakao Games and will "lead the K-content business in the global market."

The signal: The acquisition shows Kakao Games leaning on profitable, cash-generating targets to steer a medium-term turnaround under fresh ownership — a bet on financial stability and IP breadth over a single hit title.
