Buildots raises $130M as data center boom fuels construction AI demand

What's the deal? Buildots, a US-Israeli startup using AI to speed up construction of mega-projects like data centers, chip factories, and hospitals, has raised $130 million. The round was led by billionaire Eyal Ofer's OG Venture PartnersDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, with participation from Lightspeed Venture Partners, Intel Capital, and others.

The numbers: The financing brings total raised to $297 million since the company's 2018 founding. The new round pushes its valuation close to $1 billion, chief executive officer Roy Danon said.

What's the endgame? Buildots' platform compares actual construction progress against design plans and schedules, flagging bottlenecks and predicting delays. Customers include Intel, data center builder Digital RealtyDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, and US construction firms STO Building GroupDealroom has a profile for this one. Why now? Delays are especially acute for data center developers as AI advances quickly. Tech giants are spending billions building data centers, many of which have faced delays and cancellations.

Danon framed the stakes around the short economic life of AI chips. "From the moment you start working on a data center, those GPUs, those CPUs will not be relevant in a few years," he said. "You need to redo the whole thing. So the shorter you can make construction, then the more active lifetime those projects have."

The platform aims to expose the ripple effects of holdups. It can show whether "electrical work is moving slowly, it's also blocking the mechanical work and it's blocking the commissioning," Danon said. "You need the whole trail of data to get to those conclusions."

What's next? The company, headquartered in Tel Aviv and Chicago, employs more than 400 people. It plans to use the investment to roll out new products covering additional parts of the construction cycle.

The signal: With billions flowing into data centers to feed the AI boom, tools that shorten build times are drawing investor attention — and Buildots' approach to near-unicorn status reflects that demand.
