Try Dealroom →, a Tokyo branding firm. The deal, announced in September 2026, carries an undisclosed value.
Vis (Tokyo Stock Exchange Standard: 5071) designs office spaces and consults on how people work. Paddle Design Company, founded in January 2000, offers branding services spanning strategy, corporate identity, websites, catalogues, and video production.
Why now? The acquisition follows the mid-term plan "VISION2027," published in June 2025, in which Vis flagged strategic M&A as central to its purpose of "making working people happy." Chief executive officer Tomohiro Kanaya framed the deal as "a crucial step" toward that goal.
What's the endgame? Vis wants to merge its expertise in physical space, the "hard" side, with Paddle's branding skills, the "soft" side. The combined group aims to support clients from strategy through to built environment, a service it calls next-generation "work design."
Vis argues the tie-up extends its reach from "space and experience" into "brand and strategy." It cites Paddle's ability to articulate management challenges and its multifaceted design capability as the assets it most wants to bring in-house.
The context: Vis points to Japan's shrinking workforce as a driver. It says recruitment branding and internal branding matter more than ever for firms trying to attract and retain talent, and it wants to help clients on both fronts.
The group also sees commercial upside. By engaging clients earlier, at the brand-building stage rather than only at office relocation, Vis expects to widen its deal pipeline and lift customer lifetime value through ongoing content and communications work. It cites more than 8,500 projects completed across the group to date.
The share transfer contract was signed on September 14, 2026, with completion expected on November 2, 2026. Paddle Design Company, led by chief executive officer Zenji Toyoda, has capital of US$230.8K and is based in Aoyama, Tokyo.
The signal: The deal reflects a push to bundle office design with brand strategy into a single, integrated offering. As Toyoda put it, connecting Paddle's "power to build brands" with Vis's "power to build places" lets the group carry a company's vision from words through to space and experience.
