Why it stands out: The round ranks in the 96th percentile among all-time Series B rounds for health startups in Sweden. It is the first raise since Tandem's $50 million Series A last year, and the Scaleup Europe Fund's debut investment in AI healthcare.

What does it do? Tandem's assistant prepares patient summaries before appointments, offers clinical decision support during consultations, and handles documentation and coding afterwards. Clinicians using its products report a 29% cut in time spent on admin, the company says. It is used by 10,000 care organisations across 14 European countries.

What's the endgame? The capital will fund growth among Europe's leading care providers. Tandem also plans to expand from an AI medical assistant into an AI-native clinic operating system that manages patient flows and additional clinical tasks.

Why now? The World Health Organisation estimates the shortfall in health and social care workers will reach 4 million by 2030, while the number of Europeans over 65 is projected to hit around 130 million by 2050. "Europe's health systems are under real strain and AI presents a real solution," said Lukas Saari, chief executive officer and co-founder of Tandem Health.

What could go wrong? The funding lands amid debate over the safe deployment of AI in healthcare. In Britain, scrutiny has centred on US firm Palantir, which built a data platform for the NHSDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →.

The signal: European investors are betting that homegrown healthcare AI can beat tools retrofitted from other markets. "We believe Tandem has the potential to become a foundational AI layer for European healthcare over the coming decades," said Nils Petter Nygaard, managing director at EQT and Scaleup Europe Fund.
