What's the deal? SurfAce CleantechDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a Swiss deep-tech startup, has closed a CHF 250,000 (about $310,000) pre-seed round to advance its patent-pending coating technology for compostable flexible packaging. The round was backed by Swiss business angels, including an investor from the SICTICDealroom has a profile for this one. What's the endgame? Based at EPFL Innovation Park and developed with EPFL, the company's technology reinforces compostable films, enabling thinner, stronger, and more cost-competitive packaging without sacrificing compostability. The aim is to accelerate adoption of high-performance compostable packaging.

What's the money for? The financing will fund the next stage of industrial development and grow the team from three to five people. Priorities include optimising pattern and zone printing, running industrial-scale trials, and advancing compostability certification, with market readiness targeted for the first quarter of 2027.

Why now? The round moves the startup from lab and trial results toward a certified, industrialised product. "The next months are about execution — industrial optimization, certification and demonstrating that our technology can deliver both performance and economic value at scale," said co-founder and chief executive officer Frederic Mauch.

The signal: At roughly $310,000, the raise sits toward the smaller end of the funding spectrum — a modest pre-seed ticket that reflects both the early stage of the technology and the capital-efficient path deep-tech startups often take from lab to market.
