Artefact buys Munich's Nunatak Group to triple its German business by 2030

What's the deal? Artefact, a global data and AI consulting firm, has acquired Munich-based The Nunatak Group for an undisclosed sum. Founded in 2011, Nunatak brings roughly 50 consultants and AI engineers across Munich, Berlin, and Zurich, working on AI strategy, operating models, and marketing transformation.

Why now? The deal follows Artefact's acquisition of Explorate AI in October 2025 and its recent opening of offices in Munich and Berlin. It caps a run of deals that also included Belgian data science firm Agilytic and process automation specialist OFI Services.

The new hire: Nunatak founder Robert Jacobi becomes chief executive officer of Artefact in Germany, with a mandate to more than triple the DACH business by 2030. "With Artefact, we have found a strong global partner that will allow us to significantly expand our offering in the DACH region and grow faster," he said.

The expansion: The acquisition deepens Artefact's push into the German-speaking DACH market, adding access to financial services, insurance, media, and energy clients. The combined firm aims to offer end-to-end AI transformation, from board-level strategy to implementation and upskilling.

What's the endgame? Executive chairman Vincent Luciani framed the deal as part of Artefact's plan to triple in size by 2030. "We are building the platform to become the leading data and AI consulting partner for German corporations by the end of the decade," he said.

The signal: Consulting firms are consolidating fast to sell AI transformation to large corporates. Artefact's serial dealmaking shows how the race for scale and specialist talent is reshaping the sector, with Germany's industrial base as a key prize.
