Volition Capital raises $950M fund for bootstrapped founders
What's the deal? Volition CapitalDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → has raised $950 million for its sixth fund, the Boston-based growth equity firm's largest to date. Co-founder Larry Cheng disclosed the figure to The Information , adding that the raise brings the 16-year-old firm's assets under management to $2.6 billion.
What's the strategy? Volition backs startups that have already generated at least millions in revenue, often without raising any institutional money. That focus on bootstrapped founders has resonated again with its limited partners.
The track record: The firm cut its teeth investing in consumer startups like Chewy and enterprise software companies.
The signal: As venture capitalists rush to back the hottest startups before they generate any revenue, Volition is doubling down on a proven approach: writing checks to founders who have already built real businesses on their own.
