What each side does: SI Solutions, based in Huntersville, North Carolina, provides structural integrity engineering, testing, and software to critical infrastructure owners. It operates from 16 locations, five with testing laboratories, and serves more than 330 clients across nuclear, gas power, pipeline, petrochemical, and industrial markets.
The company evaluates whether high-consequence assets are safe and fit for continued service, assessing remaining useful life through stress, fatigue, and materials analysis. It was built by integrating specialist firms with long technical track records.
Why now? Macquarie sees growth driven by tailwinds in the infrastructure sector, particularly power generation. The firm cites the convergence of energy and digital infrastructure, aging assets that must stay in service, and rising demand for nuclear power.
What's the endgame? The acquisition is the third under a Macquarie strategy targeting stable businesses that provide critical services to infrastructure end-markets. It follows the firm's investments in Potters IndustriesDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → and DynaGridDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → in 2025.
"SI is a highly regarded industry leader with a strong track record of serving many of the largest utilities," said Andrew Olinick, senior managing director at Macquarie Asset Management. Chief executive officer Mark W. Marano said the firm's "deep sector expertise and long-term investment approach are an ideal fit."
The signal: Infrastructure-focused investors are consolidating specialist engineering and testing firms as utilities extend the life of aging assets and add new power generation, especially nuclear and gas. For SI's clients, the backing brings scale to a platform built by combining niche technical operators.
