What's the endgame? Intermezzo automates international payroll for Human Capital Management (HCM) platforms, which often lack local capabilities and rely on regional vendors to add countries. It operates as a white-label API provider, using AI agents to convert source data into machine-readable rules.
Why now? Payroll remains a fragmented, manual process. HR teams spend an average of 22 hours per week per country coordinating with local vendors, error rates can reach 20%, and 53% of companies face penalties as a result.
Intermezzo says its engine collapses the standard 20-day processing cycle to 24 hours and improves accuracy to over 99%. It plans to use the funds to expand operations and its reach.
Who's behind it? Co-founder and CEO Siddharth Ram and CTO Kumar Ramanathan lead the company. Its founding team spent a collective 40 years at Intuit.
"Workforce technology is no longer back-office administration. It is core business infrastructure, and payroll is one of the clearest examples of that shift," said Ed Park of UKG Ventures.
The signal: The round is notably large for its stage, landing above the 94th percentile of US seed rounds over the trailing 48 months. That size reflects investor appetite for embedding AI into the regulated, back-office plumbing that enterprise software still handles by hand.
