What's the endgame? Nice-based Cosma builds multi-sensor drone systems and a web platform that produce georeferenced 3D reconstructions of underwater environments. The money funds three priorities: deploying in complex environments, monitoring sensitive infrastructure, and adding autonomous inspection features such as sensor fusion and threat recognition.

Why now? "Benthic ecosystems and critical underwater infrastructure remain poorly observed, understood and monitored, even as we become aware of their strategic importance," said chief executive officer Frédéric Mittaine. He added that Cosma is "preparing breakthrough technologies to simplify the observation of the submerged world."

The signal: The round sits at the intersection of civilian, sovereignty, and environmental uses — a mix investors view as unusual. "This civilian - sovereignty - environment convergence is rare," said Timothée Poulain, partner at Ternel, adding the team has "proven capable of moving from demonstrator to operational missions in the most demanding environments."
