Bulwark Dynamics raises $6.8M seed to build autonomous landing craft for the Pacific

What's the endgame? The company builds Caravel, an unmanned surface vessel designed to resupply expeditionary units over shorelines with no port, pier, or crane. It transits, beaches, offloads cargo, and retracts fully autonomously, including in GPS-denied environments.
The product: In early 2026, Bulwark demonstrated the full mission sequence with a 15-foot Caravel prototype, with no human intervention. It is now developing 35-foot and 55-foot variants that carry one and two twenty-foot equivalent units of containerised cargo, sharing common components for cheaper production at scale.
The funding will support development and production of the Caravel series, manufacturing capacity, and field testing. Bulwark's focus is sustainment for US and allied forces across the Indo-Pacific littorals, though the company says the same capability carries to civil uses such as disaster relief.
The expansion: Bulwark also signed a memorandum of understanding with Onomichi Dockyard, one of Japan's leading shipbuilders, to build the Caravel series in Japan. The two are in discussions on a site dedicated to serial production of unmanned vessels, on top of the existing shipyard.
Why now? The partnership tracks the White House priority on working with allied shipbuilders to rebuild US maritime industrial capacity, set out in America's Maritime Action Plan in February 2026.
"Sustainment has to survive to matter," said co-founder and chief executive officer Nhat Lieu. "Caravel takes people off the most exposed leg of the run and spreads the delivery across many low-cost hulls, so losing one is a bad day rather than the end of the resupply."
The signal: At $6.8 million, the round sits in the 92nd percentile of all-time US deep tech seed deals — a sign of investor appetite for defence hardware that pairs autonomy with allied manufacturing. Bulwark is betting that building unmanned vessels cheaply and in numbers, inside the theatre, is where contested logistics is headed.
